After postponing all games on Thursday & Friday to support the fight against social injustice & for equality in the United States, the NHL will return on Saturday.
The Flyers & Islanders will go back to battle Saturday night at 7:00pm. Here is the complete new game schedule…
8/29 Game3 Saturday 7:00pm on NBCSports
8/30 Game4 Sunday 8:00pm on NBC
9/1 Game5 Tuesday 7:00pm on NBCSports
9/3 Game6 Thursday TBD *if necessary
9/5 Game7 Saturday TBD *if necessary
With the postponement, the Flyers & Islanders back-to-back has been moved to Saturday & Sunday. A back-to-back that is very different from every other back-to-back so far in the bubble.
Instead of the 12:00pm to 8:00pm or 3:00pm to 7:00/8:00pm like it has been & was supposed to be, the Flyers & Islanders will play twice within less than 24hours.
The Flyers vs Islanders 2nd round series is tied 1-1
Thursday’s message was led by the players. A message that Ryan Reaves summed up perfectly…
“It’s great that the NBA did this and the MLB, WNBA; they have a lot of Black players in those leagues; I think if you look around this room, there’s a lot of white athletes in here and I think that’s the statement that’s being made right now. For all these athletes in here to take a stand and say we see the problem too and we stand behind you, I’d go to war with these guys. I hate their guts on the ice, but I couldn’t be more proud of these guys. The statement that they’ve made today is something that’s going to last.” – Ryan Reaves
Hockey will always be there. Sports will always be there. Messages like the NHL players made on Thursday are not. Sometimes things are just more important than sports.
