This morning, the Philadelphia Flyers hit the ice to resume the 2024 Flyers Rookie Camp at the Flyers Training Center in Voorhees, NJ, after splitting the 2024 Rookie Series with the New York Rangers.

Game one, on Friday, went as far as a shootout. Brennan Othmann scored the game-winner in the skills competition. Game two had to be settled after regulation, too. Samu Tuomaala sank the game-winner in overtime. The Flyers rookies finished 1-0-1 in the series.

“I felt great to finally get the goal. I got a couple chances on those two games. So, finally I get one goal, and it’s important for me, like, get the goals at the beginning of the season and get the great feeling for the season.” – Samu Tuomaala; 9/14/2024

Tuomaala did not practice today. He had his damages, receiving repairs from the back-to-back.

However, Matvei Michkov returned. He did not play in the second game versus the Rangers but did score a powerplay goal when competing in the first. In drills, he lined up with Jett Luchanko and Elliot Desnoyers again.

A few other prospects stood out in the 2024 Rookie Series. Jon-Randall Avon enters his second season with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms (65GP; 9G, 9A in 2023-2024), swift in his skating. On the latter end of his entry-level contract, Zayde Wisdom (49GP; 2G, 1A in 2023-2024) made the most of his ice time in the overtime win versus New York. Wisdom led stretches to complete the Sunday practice after Ian Laperrière spoke highly of his performance:

“Wis [Wisdom] realized it was a big camp for him. Boulton and Wis. I think that line played a hell of a game.” – Ian Laperrière; 9/14/2024

Sawyer Boulton spent last season in the OHL with the London Knights. The Knights are becoming a notable feeder into Philadelphia under the Daniel Brière regime. Denver Barkey and Oliver Bonk also played with Boulton in London. In the rookie series, Boulton was a battering ram and scored a goal assisted by Wisdom. Next season will be the first for Boulton with the Phantoms.

“A lot of credit to Wizzy [Wisdom] and Gaucher, there. They made a great play. I was just driving harder to the net and good things happened.” – Sawyer Boulton; 9/14/2024

Sunday finished with some preparation for John Tortorella and his bag skate, ramping up the skating. Tomorrow, the rookies will be back on the ice at 11am.
