2024 Preseason: Alexei Kolosov, Flyers visit New York Islanders

After a come-from-behind effort on Saturday, the Philadelphia Flyers (3-1-0) head to UBS Arena to take on the New York Islanders (2-2-0).

The Flyers and Islanders have faced off once before this preseason, as the Orange and Black snared a 2-0 home win on Thursday thanks to Sam Ersson’s 37 saves.

Both teams will have a different look than last time they played, but the most noticeable change will be in goal for the Flyers. While Ivan Fedotov will start, Alexei Kolosov will make his first appearance in a Philadelphia sweater on Monday night after the summer saga that saw him reportedly unhappy with his arrangements in AHL Lehigh Valley, avoiding time with his teammates, and the apparent lack of will to compete for a job in Philadelphia. After the Flyers signed goaltender Eetu Mäkiniemi to a one-year deal, Kolosov hopped on a plane from Belarus and joined the team for Training Camp in Voorhees, where he’s been skating for the last few days.

“I am very honored to be part of the Flyers organization and am happy to be here at training camp,” said Kolosov in a statement. “I look forward to the opportunity to play alongside my teammates and help the team win.”

Assistant coach Darryl Williams, who will be running the bench tonight, said he wasn’t sure if Kolosov will split the game with Fedotov or only play in the third period but he will play. Williams will coach while head coach John Tortorella will sit up top with Daniel Brière and Keith Jones once again. Phantoms head coach Ian Laperrière and Flyers assistants Rocky Thompson and Brad Shaw have served as the bench boss in previous preseason games, so Williams is getting his turn now.
