We are at the official start of the Philadelphia Flyers 2024 Preseason. Two groups will have on and off-ice training sessions at 10am and 11am.
The game group will have a morning skate, board the bus to the District, and compete. It will be the first of a preseason back-to-back before the Flyers travel to take on the Montréal Canadiens tomorrow at 7pm. Below is the group that will travel to Washington, DC:

Philadelphia Flyers at Washington Capitals: Preseason Preview
A break in training does not pause the intensity. In camp, the players accept the challenges of being pushed. Travis Sanheim and Travis Konecny emit high intensity during training camp, particularly in scrimmages. Seeler, expectedly, kept energy pumping.
“That’s the competitive spirit of our players. Not just our team, but I think the whole league. They’ll figure that out. If something gets out of hand with TK [Konecny] and Sanheim, and someone’s getting the worst of it, everybody will figure that out. I leave it up to them, but Seels [Seeler], that’s just who he is. I’m not sure what happened, but that is good stuff for me. We’re not going to police that. They will police that.” – John Tortorella; 9/21/2024
Ābols will be in the lineup. An alternate captain in the SHL on Rögle BK last season, Ābols is primed to join the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. He received a pass from Joel Farabee yesterday, sturdy in his sessions, to give his team a brief lead in the first scrimmage.
Brink also commanded attention on Saturday. The post denied his best scoring chance, but he fought for possessions along the boards, which is almost as critical for Tortorella in evaluation.
Before making crisp evaluations of his players, Tortorella emphasized he needs to see them compete in exhibitions first.
One of the more vital members of the lineup tonight is Fedotov. He was local throughout the summer after joining Philadelphia late in the season. Fedotov had to forcibly adapt to the NHL after a disjointed, to say the least, finish to his KHL career. His small sample size and performance are far from a fair evaluation of what he can be in the NHL, and with a proper training camp, he might be one of the more intriguing players to watch against the Washington Capitals. Tortorella put it best, calling this a ‘fresh slate’ for Fedotov:
“He [Fedotov] spent his summer here. Like I think I said last year, we’re not going to make a judgment on him one way or another in the situation that he was brought into and all the stuff going on around him. This is a fresh slate for him. He’s going to get some time, and then we’ll see where it goes. It’s going to fall on him and how he plays. [I’m] pretty certain Ers [Ersson] is going to be our guy to start the season, and Ivan’s going to get some time in that backup role, and we’ll see how he progresses. It happened so quickly, and it’s unfair to make any type of judgment on him based on last year.” – John Tortorella; 9/21/2024
