For the first time in their 2024 NHL Preseason, the Philadelphia Flyers (1-1-0) will take home ice at the Wells Fargo Center. Visiting are the New York Islanders (1-1-0).

Overall, the Flyers will play seven preseason games. The Islanders, like the Boston Bruins, will oppose Philadelphia twice. The next matchup between tonight’s opponents will take place on Long Island at the end of this month.

Jett Luchanko, who addressed the Flyers’ media following on and off-ice sessions, mentioned his excitement to compete on home ice:

“It’s going to be cool to play at the Wells Fargo [Center] hopefully soon. I’m excited for that.” – Jett Luchanko; 9/25/2024

Luchanko practiced in a group mostly made up of NHL players. He has the attention of coaches and players, but John Tortorella advised everyone to temper their expectations based on training camp and preseason exhibitions. There is work left for Luchanko, and he will be on the ice tonight to continue his pace. On a line with Travis Konecny, who Luchanko cited as a teammate he is learning a lot from, there will be opportunities to capitalize on scoring chances, to which Luchanko nearly lit the lamp on a few occasions already.

He is becoming a big story from training camp alongside obvious cues like Matvei Michkov. Both are exceedingly clever, and like Tortorella described, they ‘get it.’ They are still learning the defensive coverages in place but push the play with the puck. Tonight, they are both in the top six of the lineup. Michkov will continue to build with Morgan Frost.
