Philadelphia Flyers GM Danny Brière closed out Round 6 of the 2023 NHL Draft by drafting forward Ryan MacPherson, 172th overall.
MacPherson is going from Flyer to Flyer, as he spent two years playing for the Leamington Flyers of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League. During his time with the Leamington Flyers, the left-handed shooter tallied 39 goals and 74 assists in 113 games and won the 2023 Sutherland Cup.
Entering the NHL Draft this year, MacPherson was ranked 211th by NHL Central Scouting. As far as physicality goes, MacPherson sits at 5’11”, weighing at 167 pounds.
MacPherson will spend next year playing in the British Columbia Hockey League for Penticton and then will spend the 2024-25 season playing for the University of New Hampshire. Although it will be at least a few years until Flyers fans will see him in the orange and black, his presence will help the offense in future seasons.
The Athletic’s Charlie O’Connor reported that Flyers assistant general manager Brent Flahr extended an invitation to Ryan’s twin brother, Connor MacPherson, to Flyers Development Camp, which starts up next week.
Brent Flahr also noted that the Flyers plan to invite Ryan MacPherson's twin brother to development camp next week, too. So that'll be fun.

According to The Philadelphia Inquirer, Flahr stated that the organization sees MacPherson’s potential to be a Noah Cates-type due to his competitiveness and two-way game.
MacPherson is a solid pick for the Flyers to kick off the rebuild.
