The Philadelphia Flyers embark on their 2nd preseason contest of the 2023-24 season, this time on the road against the New York Islanders at the UBS Arena at Belmont Park in New York. After a rough showing last game, they will look to improve and get themselves in the win column.
The lineup tonight will feature a lot of players vying for the final roster spots, AHL players, and a glut of bottom-6 forwards. 12 Lehigh Valley Phantoms – played with them at some point last year – will be in tonight from Samu Tuomaala, Zayde Wisdom, Brendan Furry, Tanner Laczynski, Cooper Marody, Ronnie Attard, Louie Belpedio, Adam Ginning, Emil Andrae, Adam Karashik, Samuel Ersson, and Felix Sandström.
In Sean Couturier’s return to the ice, the Flyers fell to an NHL-heavy lineup in New Jersey. They scored 4 goals in the first 5 minutes and never looked back as they dominated from top to bottom. The Flyers had a few NHLers of their own but for the most part had a lot of inexperienced and young prospects.
Denver Barkey and Oliver Bonk both played in the opener, but were part of the first 5 players cut from the training camp roster, also including Carter Sotheran, Sam Sedley, and Jonathan Fauchon. They weren’t expected to stick around too long, especially with Barkey’s and Bonk’s London Knights kicking off their regular season in short order.
