All on-ice sessions are free and open to the public, including the five-on-five scrimmage on July 6th at 6pm. The Flyers’ player development staff and Lehigh Valley Phantoms coaches will lead the Flyers Development Camp. Cara Morey returns to join the development staff.
Here’s a look at a few notable participants at the 2024 Flyers Development Camp:
Denver Barkey
Barkey, cut by Team Canada ahead of the 2024 IIHF World Juniors, cleared the one-hundred-point threshold in the OHL. His 102 points (35G, 67A) on the London Knights led the team and placed Barkey among the elite forwards in the OHL. He led the Knights to an OHL Championship, hoisting the J. Ross Robertson Cup.
Oliver Bonk
Bonk did join Team Canada at the 2024 IIHF World Juniors. The former first-round selection added three assists in five games at the World Juniors. During the OHL season, Bonk tallied 67 points (24G, 43A), three points off Sam Dickinson from the lead for London defensemen. Like Barkey, Bonk was another elite standout for the Knights last season. Unfortunately, Bonk and Barkey fell short of the CHL Memorial Cup but steamrolled the competition until falling to Zayne Parekh and the Saginaw Spirit in the championship.
Jett Luchanko
Luchanko, at the 2024 NHL Entry Draft, was a late riser in the first round. Daniel Brière and Brent Flahr sought out Luchanko, trading from 12th overall to the 13th overall position with the Minnesota Wild, ultimately passing on Zeev Buium, Konsta Helenius, and Cole Eiserman. On Team Canada at the U18 IIHF World Juniors, Luchanko produced at a point-per-game pace, totaling seven (2G, 5A) in as many games. His contributions earned a gold medal. Now, his NHL development begins at the Flyers Training Center in Voorhees.
Spencer Gill
Gill was the only selection my mock and the actual Flyers draft class had in common. Philadelphia drafted the physical, two-way defenseman in the second round of the 2024 NHL Entry Draft. He was a teammate with Luchanko on Team Canada at the U18 IIHF World Juniors. In seven games, Gill added a pair of assists en route to a gold medal. Last season, Gill totaled 46 points (12G, 34A) with Rimouski Océanic in the QMJHL.
Carson Bjarnason
Bjarnason is the only goaltender not to be a camp invite at the Flyers Development Camp. He earned a decision in six games (4-2-0) for Team Canada at the U18 IIHF World Juniors but finished with a porous 3.51GAA and 84.9%SV. It will be the second Flyers Development Camp for Bjarnason, a former second-round pick from the 2023 NHL Entry Draft. He did help propel the Brandon Wheat Kings to the WHL postseason with a 3.01GAA and 90.7%SV but could not earn a winning decision (0-3-1) in the hunt for the Ed Chynoweth Cup. Bjarnason is on his entry-level contract with the Flyers through 2026-2027, hoping for a better outcome next season with the Wheat Kings.
