The Philadelphia Flyers (1-0-0) defeated the Vancouver Canucks (0-0-2) in a shootout at Rogers Arena, 3-2. Morgan Frost sank the game-winner past Kevin Lankinen.
Tonight, the Flyers travel to the Scotiabank Saddledome to visit the Calgary Flames (1-0-0). They will compete to complete a back-to-back during a tour of the West Coast. John Tortorella believes it is a good thing for his roster to face the early schedule adversity:

Philadelphia earned a comeback victory against the Canucks. The Flames already hold a victory in Vancouver, too. However, Calgary is entering tonight without a game in the last two nights. As Tortorella echoed for over a week, tonight presents a new test for the Flyers.
Last season, Philadelphia went 5-5-2 in the second game of a back-to-back.
If the Flyers are to begin the season with a 1-0-0 in the second game of a back-to-back, they must help their goaltenders. Yes, the penalty kill did not allow a goal (5/5) last night, but Sam Ersson was the main reason for that success. Nonetheless, Philadelphia found a way to finish strong on the road, and on a quick turnaround, they need to keep the energy against the Flames.

Emil Andrae is on the road. Yesterday, the Flyers placed Nick Seeler on injured reserve, retroactive to October 1st. Near the end of training camp, Tortorella said Andrae grabbed the eighth defenseman role, meaning Andrae would be the first recalled in case an opportunity presented itself.
“He [Andrae] has. The number eight spot is wide open. I thought Ginning was one that we had penciled in there. I think he’s had a bad camp. Andrae has quietly gone about his business and has had a good camp.” – John Tortorella; 10/2/2024
Andrae could appear in the lineup, paired with Rasmus Ristolainen. If not, expect the same defensive pairings as last night.
Jett Luchanko took his lumps in his NHL debut, but he nearly scored his first goal. His near goal came on a rebound chance, barely turned away by Lankinen. Luchanko remained on the third line with Joel Farabee and Bobby Brink, but there is an opportunity for Tortorella to change his lineup. Noah Cates could be inserted into the lineup in place of Luchanko.
Ivan Fedotov makes sense to start between the pipes, but after the type of performance Ersson had in Vancouver, it would not have been surprising if Tortorella stuck with the hot hand. However, Fedotov will face the Flames tonight.
