Matvei Michkov was named Rookie of the Month for October as his first taste of the NHL has gone exactly how the Philadelphia Flyers wanted and needed it to go.
MM39 HAS ARRIVED.
Congrats to Matvei Michkov on being named the @NHL's Rookie of the Month for October. #LetsGoFlyers https://t.co/j6ZOhJhGFr

The former 7th overall pick from the 2023 NHL Entry Draft has scored 4 goals and 9 points in 11 games, leads all rookies in goals, and is tied in points with Logan Stankoven.
On top of that, Michkov also leads all rookies in power play goals (3), power play points (6), is tied for most multi-point efforts (3), is second in ice time, and third in shots.
He went without a point in his NHL debut in Vancouver but then collected 9 points in his next 7 games, including a 2-goal effort on the road against Edmonton. He’s been held without a point over his last three games and has seen his ice-time drop a little bit, but John Tortorella explained it as growing pains for a rookie.
After two historical seasons in the KHL in his age group, Michkov has been everything as advertised. He has revolutionized a dying power play that is now clicking at 20.51% – after finishing dead last the previous 3 years – and has given the offense in general a spark and a new element for the opposition to deal with.
5-on-5 has been a problem for the Flyers this year, Michkov included, but it’s only a matter of time until the dam breaks with the likes of Owen Tippett, Tyson Foerster, Travis Konecny, and Morgan Frost helping the 19-year-old.
The Flyers open the month of November with a home tilt against the Boston Bruins and will play 14 games in total, including a Florida road trip coming next week as well as games against Colorado, Vegas, Nashville, the New York Rangers, and two against Carolina.
In other words, they might need another Rookie of the Month-like effort from Michkov to traverse the schedule.
