Bjarnason was selected by the Flyers in the second round (51st overall) of the 2023 NHL Draft after they traded up for the pick.
The Carberry, Manitoba native spent the 2022-23 campaign with the WHL’s Brandon Wheat Kings, going 21-19-6 while sporting a .900 save percentage, 3.08 goals against average, and 3 shutouts.
Bjarnason has clearly made a positive impression on the Flyers throughout Development Camp, Rookie Camp and now Training Camp as well. In his first game action in a Philadelphia sweater, the 18-year-old stopped 19 of 22 shots in the second Rookie Series game against the New York Rangers on September 16th and made plenty of big saves to give the Flyers a fighting chance.
Bjarnason is now the second goalie to sign their entry-level deal with the Flyers before the season begins (Aleksei Kolosov) and the seventh goalie the Flyers have under contract.
Bjarnason will spend the 2023-24 campaign with the Wheat Kings again, looking to have a strong season and showing the Flyers he can be an NHL-caliber goaltender in the future.
