Philadelphia Flyers captain Claude Giroux has been named the First Star in the NHL’s Three Stars of the Week. Giroux took home the top honors this week in the group of three that included Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner and Florida Panthers forward Mason Marchment.

Giroux racked up three goals and an assist in two games on Saturday at the NHL All-Star Game in Las Vegas. He was named All-Star Game MVP for his efforts, making him the third Flyer to win the award along with Wayne Simmonds in 2017 and Reggie Leach in 1980. Two of his goals came in the championship match against the Central Division, in which the Metropolitan Division won 5-3.
It was Giroux’s seventh All-Star appearance and it was surely his most memorable one to date. He donned the captain’s “C” for the first time as an All-Star and delivered in a big way to help the Metropolitan Division win the tournament.
Besides playing in the All-Star Game again, Giroux currently has racked up 15 goals and 20 assists for 35 points in 42 games with the Flyers this year. Giroux has easily been the team’s most consistent player over the entire course of the season. He moved into second in Flyers all-time scoring ahead of legend Bill Barber earlier this year, and he surpassed all-time great Bobby Clarke as the longest tenured captain in franchise history by games played as well.
The 34 year-old Hearst, Ontario native is a pending unrestricted free agent, and whether he stays or is dealt by the trade deadline, he has given the Flyers and this fanbase a lot to be proud of and has remained their best player in an otherwise bleak season.
