Philadelphia Flyers captain Claude Giroux was named as an NHL All-Star on Thursday evening, the seventh time Giroux has received the honor in his illustrious career. Giroux has recorded 11 goals and eighteen assists for 29 points in 33 contests for the Flyers this season, in which he leads the team in both assists and points.
Since the NHL has changed the All-Star Game format to four divisional teams and continuous 3-on-3 play, Giroux has represented the Flyers at the game in 2016, 2018, and 2019 prior to being named this year. His first All-Star appearance came in 2011 and he also participated in 2012 and 2015 as well. Giroux has racked up five goals and five assists for an even 10 points in his previous six All-Star Games.
Giroux now joins Bill Barber with the second-most All-Star appearances in franchise history with his seventh game coming up. Bobby Clarke maintains the franchise lead with nine.
This year’s All-Star Game will be held at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, and it will surely be a fantastic event. The All-Star Skills Competition will take place on Friday, February 4th, and the All-Star Game itself will be played on Saturday, February 5th.
Giroux has continued to break franchise records this season and cement himself as one of the greatest players to ever wear the Winged-P in history, and his All-Star nomination is nothing short of deserved.
Giroux may not be the only Flyer present in Sin City, as forward and team-leading goal scorer Cam Atkinson is on the league’s “Last Men In” ballot that fans can vote on here. Each team has an extra candidate that has a chance at being the final representative in each division. You can vote for Cam up to 10 times a day up until Monday, January 17th to try and help him make the All-Star Game as well.
