The National Hockey League announced on Sunday afternoon that Philadelphia Flyers forward Derick Brassard has been fined $2,000 for unsportsmanlike conduct for his actions in last night’s victory over the Washington Capitals.
Brassard was the guilty party in punching Capitals forward Garnet Hathaway from the bench at 5:28 of the second period last night. Brassard was assessed a bench interference penalty on the play and sat in the penalty box for two minutes, but returned to the game and scored the Flyers’ first goal in the victory.
Brassard’s fine will go towards the NHL Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund. He currently has 2 goals and 5 assists for 7 points in 10 games in his first season with Philadelphia.
