The Philadelphia Flyers have acquired the rights to Massimo Rizzo and Carolina’s 5th round pick in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft in exchange for the rights to forward, David Kaše, according to General Manager, Daniel Brière.
TRADE ALERT: We have acquired the rights to forward Massimo Rizzo and Carolina’s own fifth-round selection in the 2025 NHL Draft in exchange for the rights to forward David Kase. https://t.co/vohLBCDxIQ

The Flyers almost acquired Rizzo earlier in the summer when they were initially engaged in trade talks with Carolina about Tony DeAngelo. After trade talks stalled, the Flyers ultimately bought out the defenseman.
In Rizzo, the Flyers have acquired the signing rights to a prospect the Canes drafted in the 7th round of the 2019 NHL Entry Draft. The 5’11” centreman has exceeded expectations over the last 2 seasons, as he has put up 29 goals and 82 points in 77 games, including 17 goals and 46 points in 38 games this past season for the University of Denver.
In Kaše, the Hurricanes have acquired the younger brother of Ondrej Kaše, and he was never able to stick around at the NHL level. After spending parts of 3 seasons within the Flyers organization and playing primarily for the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, Kaše has spent the last 2 seasons in his native Czechia. He scored 51 points in 110 games for the Phantoms and had 1 goal in 7 games for the Flyers across 2 different seasons.
It’s a minor trade, but the Flyers have essentially flipped a 26-year-old forward who has spent the past 2 seasons overseas for a younger prospect who has matured and improved on a yearly basis.
It seemed earlier last week the Flyers and Hurricanes officially got the deal hammered down, but the Hurricanes quickly deleted the tweet and the information off of their website.
Apparently #LetsGoCanes released a trade on their website that was quickly deleted, involving Massimo Rizzo and a 5th round pick in 2024 for an unknown return from the Flyers.
Which would explain @JFreshHockey tweet, something to keep an eye on.#Flyers | #FueledByPhilly

The Flyers need to sign the 22-year-old Burnaby, BC native, but he is of age to report to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms to start the 2023-24 season if he decides to leave the University of Denver.
