Flyers host Blue Jackets, seeking fifth consecutive win

(Heather Barry Images, LLC)

After dethroning the defending Stanley Cup champion Vegas Golden Knights on Saturday, the Philadelphia Flyers welcome the Columbus Blue Jackets to the Wells Fargo Center on Sunday evening.

Philadelphia eked out a 4-3 overtime win over Vegas on Saturday via a Sean Couturier game-winning goal. It was a back-and-forth affair as Carter Hart stopped 29 of 32 en route to the victory and Owen Tippett, Tyson Foerster and Sean Walker each potted a goal as the Flyers won their fourth straight contest.

Quite the opposite for Columbus as they are currently on an eight-game losing skid after losing to the Washington Capitals on Saturday evening, 4-3.

If the Blue Jackets want to end their losing streak, they’ll have to get by Travis² (Travis Konecny and Travis Sanheim).

Konecny leads the team in goals with 10 while Sanheim leads in assists (14) and total points (16). Sanheim added two assists to his totals yesterday against the Golden Knights.

A bright spot for Columbus is rookie Adam Fantilli.

The 2023 third-overall pick out of the University of Michigan sits fifth in points, nine, among all 2023-24 rookies. He sits behind Anaheim’s Pavel Mintyukov, New Jersey’s Luke Hughes, Arizona’s Logan Cooley and Chicago’s Connor Bedard.

These two squads last met on October 12 when the Flyers took a 4-2 victory in Columbus in their season opener. Travis Konecny scored twice while Cam Atkinson and Joel Farabee each potted a goal. Carter Hart stopped 31 of 33 in the win.

Tonight will be a homecoming return for one familiar face. Former 2015 seventh-overall pick Ivan Provorov will face the Flyers in Philadelphia for the first time since being dealt to Columbus over the summer. The Yaroslavl, Russia, native spent seven seasons in orange, recording 65 goals and 152 assists for 217 points. The Flyers received D Sean Walker and G Cal Petersen as well as draft picks in a three-team trade with Columbus and Los Angeles on June 6, 2023.
