The Philadelphia Flyers’ annual Autism Awareness Night will take place tomorrow night when the Flyers host the Toronto Maple Leafs at Wells Fargo Center. The game happens to fall on World Autism Awareness Day as well, which makes this just a bit more special as well.
The Flyers will be doing a few things to help symbolize the event. Over 300 guests from the Kinney Center for Autism Education and Support at St. Joseph’s University will be hosted by the Flyers and will participate in plenty of events throughout the evening. They will have an opportunity to visit the penalty box before puck drop, ride the Zambonis during intermissions, and guests will also receive sensory kits that include headphones, sunglasses, activity booklets, and more.
The Sensory Room, which is specifically designed to for guests with sensory-friendly needs and was introduced to the Wells Fargo Center in 2015, will also be open for guests and fans in attendance. There are plenty of family-friendly games, headphones, beanbag chairs, coloring books, and more for people to enjoy inside the room.
Before puck drop, Celeste Green from the Kinney Center will lead the Flyers’ “Bring the Noise” pre-game drum banging tradition, and she and Angus Murray, Executive Director of the Kinney Center, will be recognized as the night’s Community Teammate.
Philadelphia Flyers forward James van Riemsdyk will also be shown by the team in an in-game video message welcoming guests affiliated with the Kinney Center and others to Wells Fargo Center for the evening’s festivities as well.
