Adam Ginning, 24, appeared in nine games for the Philadelphia Flyers last season. He, mostly in tandem with Ronnie Attard, flashed stability as a young defensive defenseman. However, he spent most of last season competing on the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.

Ginning and Attard competed together on the Phantoms, too. When Ginning received the call to the Flyers, it was not a surprise when he continued to pair with Attard. In familiarity, there was confidence. Before making his 2023-2024 debut in Philadelphia, Ginning accumulated thirteen points (2G, 11A) in 52 games.

On March 7th, 2024, Ginning featured in the lineup against the Florida Panthers. The Flyers won a close battle, 2-1. Ginning and Attard led a hard-checking effort, combining for eleven hits and three blocked shots. Then, Ginning went back to Lehigh Valley for four games. However, Ginning would return to Philadelphia.

“I tried to play aggressive, don’t think too much. It was easy to play with Ronnie [Attard] too, since we’ve been playing together a lot last season and this season. That was a fun game.” – Adam Ginning; 3/7/2024

He returned to the lineup on March 19th, 2024, versus the Toronto Maple Leafs. Ginning remained defensively responsible with three hits and blocked shots en route to another close win for the Flyers, 4-3.

John Tortorella featured Ginning in his lineup through March 30th, 2024, versus the Chicago Blackhawks.

In an abbreviated stay, Ginning improved in Philadelphia last season. He put forth strong efforts against the Carolina Hurricanes, Boston Bruins, New York Rangers, and Blackhawks. Overall, the Flyers were 3-4-2 with Ginning in the lineup. Ginning logged 14:26 on the ice in his final contest against the Columbus Blue Jackets, scoring his first NHL goal in a 6-2 loss. Following a nine-game tour of the NHL, Ginning finished with a goal to his name.

After his time in Philadelphia last season, Ginning returned to the Phantoms in pursuit of the Calder Cup. Lehigh Valley swept the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins but could not defeat the Hershey Bears in the AHL Atlantic Division Semifinals. Ginning contributed a postseason assist and resembled a shutdown defenseman, handy on the penalty kill. In 58 regular season games, Ginning tallied fifteen points (2G, 13A).

Next month at the 2024 Flyers Training Camp, Ginning has a chance to earn a lineup spot. He debuted in 2022-2023, then got a real taste for the NHL last season. A strong camp exhibiting the shutdown defenseman potential would place immense pressure on other teammates in competition with him, such as Emil Andrae, Hunter McDonald, and Egor Zamula.

Back on June 17th, 2024, Ginning inked a 2yr/$1.58mil extension to remain with the Flyers. His current contract is valid through the 2025-2026 season.
