Zmolek, a product of Bemidji State University, will report directly to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms for the remainder of this season.
The 23-year-old defenseman had played for Bemidji State since 2019-20, where he racked up 9 goals and 46 points in 126 games. He just recently finished his 2022-23 season with his best totals to date, where he scored 4 goals and 21 points in 36 games, while also being named an alternate captain. He added 24 PIMs, 64 blocked shots, a couple power play goals, a shorthanded tally, and a game-winning goal to boot.
Zmolek ranked third on the team in assists, led the team in blocked shots, was fourth in scoring, and tallied 1 of 2 shorthanded goals scored on the year for Bemidji State. Zmolek was also named CCHA’s Defenseman of the Month in December and took home the honours of Defenseman of the Week in mid-November.
His most important honour, however, was being named a Hobey Baker Award nominee for 2023, which is handed out to the top player in the collegiate circuit.
