Matvei Michkov, Ivan Fedotov to represent Flyers at NHLPA Rookie Showcase

The 2024 NHLPA Rookie Showcase is slated to begin next week on September 4th at MedStar Capitals IcePlex in Arlington, Virginia, and Philadelphia Flyers rookie forward Matvei Michkov and goaltender Ivan Fedotov will be in attendance.

Michkov’s highly anticipated arrival came earlier than expected after SKA Saint Petersburg granted him an early release from his contract, but the 2023 7th overall pick is here and on full display. The 19-year-old Perm, Russia native posted 19 goals and 22 assists for 41 points in 48 KHL games with SKA and HK Sochi.

Fedotov made his arrival to Philadelphia at the end of last season after being forced to serve out his conscription duties in Arctic Russia and miss the 2022-23 KHL season. Fedotov returned to CSKA Moscow for the 2023-24 campaign and went 21-22-1 with a .914 SV%, 2.37 GAA, and 4 shutouts. After bowing out of the Gagarin Cup Playoffs, he joined the Flyers. In 3 NHL appearances, Fedotov went 0-1-1 with an .811 SV% and 4.95 GAA.

While Fedotov doesn’t qualify as a rookie under NHL rules since he is 28 years old, this will still be his first full NHL season and there is no maximum age restriction for the Rookie Showcase.

The Rookie Showcase will give top prospects and rookies the chance to show off their skills as well as have their pictures taken for trading cards – the event is sponsored by Upper Deck – and have on-ice and off-ice videos taken of them as well.
