Some notable omissions from the roster are forward Denver Barkey and goaltender Alexei Kolosov. Barkey has missed all of Rookie Camp after he dealt with a bout of mononucleosis, but he is regaining his strength and could be cleared for contact by the end of the week, and he should be ready for his upcoming season with OHL London.

Kolosov has yet to return to North America after going back to his native Belarus after being unhappy with the Phantoms last season. Flyers General Manager Daniel Brière spoke on the situation on Tuesday morning.

“I guess we can still hope he decides to show up at some point if he wants to play hockey. We hope that he changes his mind and decides to come, but it’s not looking like it at this point. It is what it is, we have to move on. We hope that he would want to compete for a job. When you look at the way we’re built right now, there’s an opportunity there for him to, the way we saw it, is probably start in the American [Hockey] League. Most teams around the league use their third goalie or fourth goalie so he’d be in a competition with the guys that we have to play some games this year. I think on his end it’s more about he wants to be guaranteed a spot in the NHL. If not, he prefers to stay over there and that’s not the way we see it.”

The next two weeks will be interesting to look at as young prospects like Jett Luchanko and Matvei Michkov will try to make their mark with the veterans of the team like Travis Konecny, Sean Couturier, and Scott Laughton, among others as the Flyers trim their roster down ahead of their season opener on October 11th against the Vancouver Canucks.
