The Philadelphia Flyers have announced that they have signed forward Garnet Hathaway to a 2-year extension worth $4.8 million, according to General Manager Daniel Brière.

“Garnet has been a great addition to our team and we’re very happy to extend him to be a Flyer for the next several seasons,” said Brière. “His style of play and level of professionalism had a big effect on our group last season, and he embodies the standard our team set out to build both on and off the ice.”
Hathaway was entering the final year of a 2-year contract he had signed last year on Canada Day. However, the Flyers liked Hathaway so much they decided to jump the gun as soon as possible to get the extension done. In essence, Hathaway will be with the Flyers for the next 3 seasons, at a cap hit of $2.375 million in 2024-25 and then $2.4 million in 2025-26 and 2026-27.
The Kennebunkport, Maine native will be entering his 10th NHL season and second with the Orange and Black in 2024-25. He has 65 goals and 139 points across 539 games with the Calgary Flames, Washington Capitals, Boston Bruins, and the Flyers. In 82 games last season, Hathaway scored 7 goals and 17 points, was a -7, accrued 132 PIM, fired 103 shots on goal, averaged 12:29 TOI, won 22 of 33 faceoffs, and most importantly finished 326 checks.
Hathaway played 121.2 minutes while shorthanded and was a key cog in the Flyers’ much improved penalty kill that finished 4th in the NHL. He will be relied upon once again for his physicality, intimidation, tertiary scoring, and penalty-killing prowess in a bottom-6 role, where he thrived alongside Ryan Poehling and Noah Cates.
With Hathaway in the mix for the foreseeable future, it makes you wonder what the future has in store for fellow bruiser Nicolas Deslauriers, who is still under contract for two more seasons.
