The Philadelphia Flyers and the New York Rangers are set to face off during their annual Rookie Series at the PPL Center in September.

It will feature top prospects from both clubs with the first game taking place on the 13th of September at 7:05pm and the second game taking place the following day on the 14th at 5:05pm.

This year’s rookie series might hold a little more excitement than in previous seasons because it could feature the Flyers’ budding rookie phenom in Matvei Michkov. Fresh off of signing his entry-level contract, the rookie sensation has been in Philadelphia for the majority of the summer and was recently seen skating with Egor Zamula.

Aside from Michkov, it could also feature London Knights duo Oliver Bonk and Denver Barkey, both of whom were drafted during the 2023 NHL Entry Draft, as well as this year’s first round selection in Jett Luchanko. It will be a good showcase for the youngsters who will be following in the footsteps of other top prospects in years past like Tyson Foerster and Samuel Ersson.

Both Lehigh Valley Phantoms President Jim Brooks and Flyers General Manager Daniel Brière spoke about the upcoming event with excitement:

“We take pride in bringing exciting events to Downtown Allentown, and this one is extra special — the opportunity to host two of the best NHL organizations and showcase their top prospects right here in PPL Center,” said Brooks. “We want to thank the Flyers and Rangers for coming to the Valley, and we know our venue and community will provide their players with a warm welcome as they take this important step in their playing careers.”

“We are thrilled to bring back the annual Rookie Series to PPL Center for a third consecutive season,” said Brière. “The opportunity to showcase some of the best young prospects in hockey at this state-of-the-art facility is the perfect way to commence the new season. Our fans in the Lehigh Valley have provided an exciting atmosphere for these up-and-coming pros to showcase their abilities.”

The Flyers came out on top in the first Rookie Series event held in 2022 with a 2-1 overtime victory as well as a 5-1 win to close things out. The Rangers then claimed back to back victories last year in Allentown by scores of 4-2 and 3-1, respectively.

Tickets are expected to go on sale on Monday, the 19th of August at 10:00am at PPLCenter.com.
