Daniel Briere and the Philadelphia Flyers have agreed to terms with yet another pending RFA forward in Olle Lycksell, as he was signed to a 2-year, 2-way deal worth $1.575 million – AAV of $787,500.

Lycksell joins fellow 2023 RFAs in Egor Zamula, Ronnie Attard, Noah Cates, and Cam York all having signed new deals up until now, with Morgan Frost being the only one without one.
The 23-year-old spent his first full season of North American professional hockey with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms this past season. He finished first on the team in assists with 31 and second in points with 45, but in just 53 games as he spent some time in the NHL with the Flyers on 3 separate – yet short – stints.
Lycksell was in the lineup for the second game of the season against the Vancouver Canucks, was brought back up in mid-December for 2 games, and then brought back at the end of February for 5 games before returning back to the Phantoms for their playoff push. It was his first taste of NHL hockey and in 8 games he recorded an assist while averaging 10:34 TOI.
He spent the previous 3 seasons in the Swedish Hockey League for 3 different teams: Linkopings HC in 2019-20, Farjestads BK Karlstad in 2020-21, and Vaxjo HC in 2021-22. He improved from 9 goals and 21 points in 51 games in 2019-20 to the same 9 goals and 21 points but in 5 less games in 2020-21, to 14 goals and 34 points in 47 games in his final year in the SHL.
The Oskershamn, Sweden native was drafted in the 6th round by the Flyers back in 2017, a draft that included Nolan Patrick, Morgan Frost, Isaac Ratcliffe, Kirill Ustimenko, Matthew Strome, Maxim Sushko, and Noah Cates all being drafted ahead of him. Wyatt Kalnyuk was drafted in the 7th round as the final pick for the Flyers.
On top of his Phantoms-leading 31 assists, he was also tied for second in power play assists with 10, tied for second in game winning goals with 3, and tied for fourth in power play goals with 5. Tyson Foerster was first in points with 48 in 66 games, Lycksell followed that up with 45 points in 53 games, and Elliot Desnoyers was third in points with 43 in 65 games but had a team-leading 23 goals.
All 3 will be featured at some point in important capacities with the Flyers either this season or the next but have proven to be worth giving a shot heading into a busy and important training camp. With the impending returns of Sean Couturier and Cam Atkinson, as well as the additions of Garnet Hathaway and Ryan Poehling, spots are limited and need to be fought for in training camp.
This is the 2nd contract that Lycksell has signed with the Flyers with his first one coming back in May of 2021. It was a 2-year deal worth 1.750 million and an AAV of 837,500$.
