The Philadelphia Flyers (12-10-3) have the opportunity to avenge a previous shootout loss against the Florida Panthers tonight at the Wells Fargo Center.
When these teams clashed on November 9th, the Panthers outlasted the Flyers, 4-3. Joel Farabee put Philadelphia ahead, but Florida erased the deficit in the second period. Garnet Hathaway scored the equalizer later to force overtime.
Since that loss, the Flyers are 7-2-1. Sam Ersson only appeared in one additional game during that run, a win versus the San Jose Sharks.
According to DraftKings Sportsbook, the Panthers (-185) are sizable favorites. Florida is 3rd (95GF) in offense with the Winnipeg Jets, 28th (85GA) in defense, 8th (25.3%) on the powerplay, and 11th (81.1%) on the penalty kill. Comparably, Philadelphia is 23rd (70GF) in offense with the Montréal Canadiens and the Utah Hockey Club, 23rd (81GA) in defense, 25th (16%) on the powerplay, and 3rd (84.9%) on the penalty kill. A win for the Flyers would stretch their current five-game point streak to six games.

John Tortorella stated after practice on Wednesday how Ersson was an option to occupy the crease versus the Panthers, but officially, Ivan Fedotov will start. In his last five games, Fedotov is 3-1-1 with a 90.1%SV and a 3.0GAA. His recent appearance resulted in a 3-1 win on Black Friday versus the New York Rangers.
Travis Sanheim was one of two standout defensemen in the recent overtime win against the St. Louis Blues. Last night, he joined two other teammates (Rasmus Ristolainen and Travis Konecny) as a Philadelphia representative at the Four Nations Faceoff. The other standout defenseman for the Flyers in St. Louis was Egor Zamula. Neither defenseman featured on the score sheet against the Blues, but both played responsibly in front of Alexei Kolosov. Zamula needs to manage the puck in the defensive zone, and Sanheim, in a sizeable role, will join on the attack.
Tyson Foerster is skating well on his line with Noah Cates and Bobby Brink in the last couple of games. Foerster outhustled Adam Fox to assist Brink versus the Rangers. Then, Foerster cleaned up a shot by Brink off the post for a goal in St. Louis. More success tonight would suggest Foerster is finding his groove again.
