The Philadelphia Flyers (28-34-8) need a win. They’re back in another losing streak, which isn’t ever good for morale. March (2-8-0) has been brutal, and the schedule doesn’t get easier tonight. The Flyers take their three-game losing streak into the American Airlines Center against the Dallas Stars (43-21-4), a serious NHL Stanley Cup contender.
Philadelphia continued their woes against the Washington Capitals on Thursday. Despite the result, a 3-2 loss, the Flyers didn’t appear on the scoresheet until 14:50 remained in regulation. Ryan Poehling started the scoring. He’s the leading scorer of the current crop of forwards in the last five games. Sadly, Philadelphia were swept (0-4-0) by the Capitals this season, and Alex Ovechkin scored his 888th career NHL goal, too.
Per DraftKings Sportsbook, Dallas (-290) is the favorite. The Flyers desperately need Travis Konecny to light the lamp if they want to overcome these odds.

Ivan Fedotov (5-12-3; 2.98GAA, 88.7%SV) will start. Sam Ersson started versus Washington, stopping 13/16 shots. The Flyers goaltending picture remains everchanging, and lately, it seems that there is a universe where Fedotov could outperform Ersson down the stretch. In one instance, Fedotov did a lot to earn trust since being benched by John Tortorella versus the Florida Panthers on December 5th. On the other hand, Ersson is regressing from his role as the starting goaltender in Philadelphia.
Konecny continued his goal-scoring drought. He last scored on February 8th versus the Pittsburgh Penguins. It isn’t hard to tell how frustrated he is, and if anything goes right at all for Philadelphia, let it be a goal by Konecny.

John Tortorella spoke to Konecny. During the postgame press conference after the loss to Washington, Charlie O’Connor asked Tortorella was asked about what types of conversations he’s had with Konecny. His answer referred to Konecny passing up a scoring chance with Matvei Michkov on a two-on-zero.
“I’ve been talking to him [Konecny]. With TK, you can see where it’s at when he should turn that [two-on-zero] into an [one-on-zero]. He should go down and say ‘I am scoring this goal.’ Not get involved in a passing play, [two-on-zero]. That’s where his mindset is right now. I want him to score that goal, not make a pass. Take the ice away from Mich [Michkov] and turn it into an [one-on-zero], and you go score that goal. That’s the way he’s going to get out of it. That’s the mindset he needs to get back to. That’s the player he is, but he’s not there. There’s constant conversations right now.” – John Tortorella; 3/20/2025
