The Philadelphia Flyers (28-35-9) are on another five-game losing streak. In fact, the only thing keeping this from being an eleven-game losing streak was a shootout win versus the Tampa Bay Lightning, 4-3. For most of the previous homestand and throughout this road trip, the Flyers are spiraling.
Tonight, they’ll finish their road trip against the Toronto Maple Leafs (42-25-3). Philadelphia battled the Maple Leafs in consecutive games during January. The first encounter ended in a 3-2 overtime loss. Then, recently, Toronto shelved the Flyers in regulation, 3-2.
Grossly favored are the Maple Leafs (-285). They’re superior in every head-to-head comparison or tale of the tape. Compared to Philadelphia, they’re in a completely different spectrum, among the top ten in the NHL Standings. At the 2025 NHL Trade Deadline, the Flyers sent a 2025 fourth-round, a 2027 sixth-round pick, and Scott Laughton to Toronto for a 2027 first-round pick and Nikita Grebenkin. Laughton will face his former team for the first time in his career.
If there’s a time to strike, it’s when the Maple Leafs are at room temperature. Sure, Philadelphia (1-8-1) is ice cold in their last ten games, but Toronto (4-5-1) could get caught napping at the Scotiabank Arena.

Philadelphia Flyers
Sam Ersson (19-14-5; 3GAA, 88.6%SV) will start. Ersson didn’t start a game over the weekend but did replace Ivan Fedotov in the 3-2 overtime loss against the Dallas Stars. The announcement that he would start against the Maple Leafs isn’t shocking.
Recalled from the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, Aleksei Kolosov rejoins the Flyers, while Ersson (4-4-1; 3.6GAA, 85.6%SV) and Fedotov (1-7-1; 3GAA, 87.3%SV) continue to struggle.
Sean Couturier (11G, 25A; 52.3%CF) is one of the catalysts of a cold offense, tallying four points (1G, 3A) in the last few games. In Chicago, Couturier added two assists to his scoring streak, and Travis Konecny had a multi-point night (1G, 1A), too. John Tortorella included Matvei Michkov on a line with Couturier and Konecny, which already proved beneficial in breaking Konecny out of his funk.
Jamie Drysdale (-22, 83BLK, 14HIT, 19TK:62GV; 52.9%FF) is a silver lining for Philadelphia. His play improved drastically as he further developed since joining the Flyers in January 2024. Drysdale posted a multi-point performance (1G, 1A) against the Chicago Blackhawks.
Drysdale is the quarterback of the second powerplay unit. Overall, Philadelphia hasn’t scored on the powerplay in March 2025.
