The Philadelphia Flyers (27-30-8) host the Ottawa Senators (33-25-5) at the Wells Fargo Center at 7:00pm/ET. Ivan Fedotov will start.
Since the 2025 NHL Trade Deadline, the newest versions of the lineup hadn’t participated in a team practice. Andrei Kuzmenko, Scott Laughton, and Erik Johnson departed to their trade destinations as Olle Lycksell, Rodrigo Ābols, and Emil Andrae joined from the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. Yesterday, the Flyers had the day off. Today, a morning skate took place before tonight’s game.
Andrae will replace Egor Zamula in tonight’s lineup. He replaced Cam York on Saturday, struggling in a 4-1 loss to the Seattle Kraken. John Tortorella is adamant that healthy scratching Zamula is less about his performance and more about evaluating Andrae in the late stretch of the regular season.
“We have a really good evaluation of Z [Zamula]. We need to evaluate Andrae. I didn’t play Andrae the other night [vs. Devils] because I just thought he struggled so badly [in] the first one [vs. Kraken]. I wanted to leave him alone, and now he gets back in. We’re going to have to evaluate him. We’re doing that with a number of people.” – John Tortorella; 3/11/2025
The odds at DraftKings Sportsbook depict a toss-up versus the Senators. Philadelphia won the prior matchup on November 14th, 2024. Matvei Michkov scored the overtime game-winner. Now, Ottawa is much better on the powerplay, at the faceoff dot, and in defending, which gives them an edge. The roster available to Tortorella is not what it was when these teams first met.
“It’s a different lineup. Five guys are gone, and I’m telling you right now, it was the right thing to do as far as what happened at the deadline. It was the right thing to do in the situation we’re in, but it puts us in a spot where there’s a lot of moving pieces. A lot of people playing out of position, but the message is the same; we’re trying to be as positive as we can and play with as much energy as we can.” – John Tortorella; 3/11/2025

Fedotov (5-10-3, 3.02GAA, 88.6%SV) suffered a loss in his latest performance versus the New Jersey Devils, 3-1. However, the result didn’t do his performance justice. Mostly, Fedotov remained engaged, saving 20/22 (90.9%SV). A couple of unfavorable puck bounces from Nick Seeler and Owen Tippett allowed Cody Glass and Erik Haula to maximize scoring chances with a goal. Aside from that, Fedotov looked sharp.
Rasmus Ristolainen (+3, 92BLK, 97HIT, 25TK:50GV; 48.8%FF) wasn’t on the ice for any of the goals scored by the Devils. He continued pushing his physical brand of hockey, recording hits on Luke Hughes, Ondřej Palát, and Glass. The Flyers need Ristolainen to remain disciplined on the penalty kill with Travis Sanheim, who cross-checked Brett Pesce to put Philadelphia at a disadvantage. The penalty kill is 6/10 (60%) since the regular season resumed after the 2025 NHL 4 Nations Faceoff and ranks 18th (77.9%) overall.
“One of the biggest weaknesses we have is someone that can run it from the top. The structure is a one-three-one. I have no problem with the structure. The two positions for me is the man up top that controls it, and Risto’s [Ristolainen] our best because he settles things down. Right now, he’s the best. I, eventually hope he isn’t; I hope someone else, maybe Jamie [Drysdale] steps up. I don’t know what happens there; but that, and also that bumper position, as far as puck support, that’s been inconsistent also. I’m not going to lie; there’s a skilled part to it, also. There’s a skilled part to our team that we struggle with, and it’s not to criticize what we have, but there needs to be improvement.” – John Tortorella; 3/11/2025
Tippett (19G, 17A; 54.5%CF) trickled a goal past Philipp Grubauer recently to spoil a shutout bid. Lately, goals have come at a premium for the Flyers, but Tippett is one forward who scored over the past three games. The other is his linemate, Michkov, versus Eric Comrie in a 4-1 loss to the Winnipeg Jets.
