(Philadelphia Flyers/X)

The Philadelphia Flyers (22-20-6) start the New York back-to-back, beginning with the New York Rangers (23-20-4) at 7:00pm/ET.

Tonight will be an exciting rivalry game. Both clubs are red hot. The Flyers are on a six-game point streak (5-0-1) and the Rangers are on a nine-game point streak (7-0-3).

Philadelphia is set on earning the first four-game win streak of the Flyers’ season. On Black Friday, the Rangers lost, 3-1. Lately, New York is playing with more confidence and executing. A new chapter will be written between the rivals as they clash for the first time in 2025.

New York (-155) is favored, per DraftKings Sportsbook. Despite the odds, the Flyers, as of late, can relate to the Rangers. Philadelphia is 11-4-6 in one-goal games. A tight tilt, down to the wire is possible with the goaltending duel.

Philadelphia Flyers

Sam Ersson (14-7-2; 89.2%SV, 2.70GAA) will start. He continued a string of solid performances against the Red Wings, saving 27/28 shots on goal. Ersson had another encouraging start. He’s keeping himself engaged, whether the game is pacing as a low-event or typical.

Olle Lycksell and Alexei Kolosov were sent down to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, allowing Daniel Brière and the Flyers to recall Anthony Richard for a second stint, previously succeeding in Philadelphia (2G, 4A; 7GP).

“Well he’s [Richard] fast. I’m not sure where we’ll put him as we go through here but we’ve lost [Poehls] Poehling and I can immediately see it with our team. When you lose that speed up the middle, it affects your group. Lycksell did some good things, I thought was just inconsistent as far as some turnovers and stuff like that. I’m not upset with him. When Richy was sent down, I’m not sure what the circumstances were but he was not playing poorly at all. He really didn’t deserve to be sent down, I think it came down to paperwork or numbers or whatever it was at the time. I’m glad he’s up here, he deserves to be up here. Given another opportunity to give us some offense  ” – John Tortorella; 1/23/2025

Joel Farabee picked up for Scott Laughton (personal) on the ice, and off of it, on Tuesday. Farabee took the lead for Pride Night at the Wells Fargo Center. Laughton missed Tuesday (and will miss tonight). As Laughton would’ve, Farabee scored on a skillful cut through the slot, a backhand.

Matvei Michkov notched a well-deserved secondary assist when Farabee scored. He took a hit to make the play. ‘The Mad Russian’ scored a point in five of his last six games.
