The Canadians defeated Germany 5-2 in the gold medal match on Saturday. Sammy Blais (STL) scored two goals, including the game-winner, while Lawson Crouse (ARI), Tyler Toffoli (CGY) and Laughton chipped in with a goal each for Canada. J.J. Peterka (BUF) and Daniel Fischbuch (Düsseldorfer EG) scored for the Germans.
Laughton finished the tournament with 3 goals and 5 assists for 8 points in 10 games, including goals in back-to-back games. He scored in Canada’s 4-2 victory over Latvia to advance to the gold medal match and scored today as well, both in empty net fashion.

Laughton, who will turn 29 on Tuesday, is coming off a career season with the Flyers in which he racked up 18 goals and 25 assists for 43 points, all career-highs, in 78 games. He also led the club in faceoff winning percentage (47.26%) and was tied for the team lead in shorthanded goals (3).
Laughton was one of three Flyers to participate in the World Championship, as prospect Cutter Gauthier put on a clinic with Team USA in the tournament alongside defenseman Ronnie Attard. Gauthier potted 7 goals and 2 assists for 9 points in 10 games, in which his goal total was tied for the American lead (Rocco Grimaldi) and second in the tournament behind Czechia’s Dominik Kubalík (DET). Attard scored once in 4 games with the Americans in a 3-2 win over Germany on May 15th in the preliminary round.
