A day after unveiling their 2022 preseason schedule, the Philadelphia Flyers’ regular season schedule has been announced. The Flyers are set to kick off their season on the 13th of October in Philadelphia against the New Jersey Devils. Their final game of the season is a road game against the Chicago Blackhawks on the 13th of April. The NHL is set to go back to their normal scheduling after a few years with COVID interruptions and what was supposed to be an Olympic year.
After finishing 4th-last in the NHL, ahead of only the Montreal Canadiens, Arizona Coyotes, and Seattle Kraken, the Flyers look to build upon their 25-46-11 record. The offseason has only just begun with the NHL Draft set to begin tomorrow, and then free agency is set to open on the 13th of July. The Flyers have been outspoken about their plans of being aggressive and re-tooling a roster that counted for 61 points towards the standings.
The month of October is always a good barometer for how things will unfold and the Flyers start the season with two home games, one against the Devils and the other against the Vancouver Canucks on the 15th. They then head on the road and play a back to back slate with the Tampa Bay Lightning and Florida Panthers, and then the Nashville Predators before heading back home for a short 3 game home-stand against the San Jose Sharks, Florida Panthers again, and the Carolina Hurricanes.
Their longest home-stand of the season will be in March from the 14th to the 28th, where they’ll be the host of 7 games against the Vegas Golden Knights, Buffalo Sabres, Carolina Hurricanes, Florida Panthers, Minnesota Wild, Detroit Red Wings, and Montreal Canadiens. Their longest road trip will once again be during the Christmas holidays where they’ll be travelling to games in Toronto, Carolina, San Jose, Los Angeles, and Anaheim. 5 games represents the longest road trip, but they have three other trips that are 4 games long as well.
John Tortorella will be behind the bench to start the season as the 23rd bench boss in franchise history, the Flyers are hoping for comeback seasons from the likes of Sean Couturier and Kevin Hayes, bounce-back seasons from the likes of Ivan Provorov and Carter Hart, and a little more of the same and then some from the likes of Travis Sanheim and Cam Atkinson.
There are a lot of question marks that remain but with the offseason just beginning, we’ll have a much clearer picture of how we’ll stack up on the 13th of October when the Flyers open up their season and the doors to the Wells Fargo Center against the New Jersey Devils.
